Explore the rich history of the Berks Photographic Society, founded in 1938, fostering community and artistry in photography.
Founded in 1938, the Berks Photographic Society has been a cornerstone of the photography community in Berks County, Pennsylvania. With a rich heritage that spans over 80 years, our society has evolved alongside the art of photography, transitioning from the era of film to the modern digital age.
In its inception, the Berks Photographic Society aimed to foster a community where amateur and professional photographers could share their passion for the craft. The club quickly gained traction, bringing together photographers interested in exploring new techniques and sharing their work in a supportive environment.
In the late 20th century, the club established an affiliation with the Photographic Society of America (PSA), further solidifying its reputation as a respected institution within the photography world. This partnership allowed members to participate in competitions and gain access to a wealth of resources that enhanced their skills and opportunities.
Currently, the Berks Photographic Society holds its meetings at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, a vibrant space that fosters creativity and collaboration among local artists. The center provides an ideal backdrop for discussions, workshops, and exhibitions, making it a perfect home for our club.
One of the defining features of the Berks Photographic Society is its commitment to a non-judgmental mentorship model. We believe in nurturing talent at all levels, from amateurs to seasoned professionals. Our members benefit from shared knowledge, constructive feedback, and a supportive community that fosters growth and creativity.
The society hosts various competitions, including the Berks Photographic Society competitions, encouraging members to showcase their work and receive recognition. Additionally, we offer workshops such as the Intro to Digital Photography, designed to help photographers enhance their skills in both digital and film photography.
As we look to the future, the Berks Photographic Society remains dedicated to promoting the art of photography in Berks County. With a strong foundation built on history, mentorship, and community, we invite new members to join us in our mission of capturing light and fostering creativity.
